During the 2015-16 school year, Henry Sibley senior Andrew (Drew) Conway will be joining the District 197 School Board by serving as the Board’s Student Representative. A four-year member of the Henry Sibley Student Council, Drew has also been an active member of both Business Professionals of America and Link Crew during his time at Sibley. Drew is also a member of the Henry Sibley boys’ golf team, receiving Most Improved Player honors during his sophomore year and will serve as one of the team captains in the spring.

We asked Drew a few questions about his experience at Henry Sibley, involvement with the School Board and his plans after graduation.

District 197: Have you had any particularly influential experiences or teachers during your time in District 197?
Drew: Mr. (Eric) Friberg has been a great teacher, friend and mentor throughout my time at Sibley. I went with him on a SCUBA trip through school this summer and I’ve taken at least one of his classes each year since I was a sophomore.

District 197: What are your plans for after graduation?
Drew: I’m looking at attending Iowa State, the University of Minnesota, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, or the University of St. Thomas and thinking of business for a degree. I’m taking Advanced Placement (AP) Economics right now, so maybe economics as well. But business is my main focus right now.

District 197: Have you taken any advanced courses while at Henry Sibley?
Drew: This year I’m taking AP Economics, Micro and Macro, AP Language and Composition, and College-in-the-Schools (CIS) Physics. Last year I took AP Psychology and Advanced US History. The year before that I took Advanced World History.

District 197: Why were you interested in being the Student Representative to the School Board?
Drew: Originally I heard about the opportunity through the daily announcements and I figured it would be a good way to get involved through the school. I thought I would be a good representative for the school.

District 197: What are you hoping to learn on the School Board
Drew: I want to see how everything works within the District. It’s an interesting topic for me. I’m pretty interested in politics and this is like a business too, the District is like a business. I’m interested to see how everything works.
