Hannah Delmont - 2016 Athena Award WinnerHenry Sibley High School has named senior Hannah Delmont the school’s 2016 St. Paul Area Athena Award winner for her achievements in athletics and academics. Delmont, a member of Henry Sibley’s volleyball and softball teams, was recognized with the other award winners from schools across the east metro at the 22nd annual St. Paul Area Athena Awards Luncheon on April 20.

“I was very excited when I first heard that I would be this year’s Athena Award winner,” said Delmont. “But I also knew that there were a lot of other great female athletes at Sibley that were deserving of the award. I am very honored.”

Delmont was selected as the winning nominee by a committee of coaches from Henry Sibley. During her high school career, Delmont’s primary activities were volleyball and softball, amassing eight varsity letters and three all-conference awards (one All-Metro East award in softball, and one honorable mention in volleyball and softball). She is also a two-year captain in both sports. Delmont was named the softball team MVP during her sophomore year, and earned a varsity letter during her only year on the girls' basketball team in ninth grade.

In addition to her athletic achievements, Delmont has been on the A/B Honor Roll throughout her time at Henry Sibley. She has lent her voice to multiple choirs at the school, and is a member of both the Student Council and Link Crew, working to create a more inclusive environment for all Henry Sibley students.

Away from school, Delmont has devoted her time to benefitting others. She has been a volunteer for Special Olympics Minnesota, even coaching a flag football team this past fall. She has also participated in Feed My Starving Children events and served as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army.

“I like to see other people succeed and be happy,” said Delmont. “It’s rewarding being able to work with other people.”

Although Delmont is undecided on whether or not she will continue her athletics career in college, her future plans include attending the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn., beginning in the fall.
