Levy Renewal Request - Vote November 8
Operating Levy Referendum 2016
Posted on 08/31/2016

Levy Renewal LinkThe West St. Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan Area School Board (District 197) voted unanimously on August 1 to place one funding question on the November 8, 2016 ballot.

Residents will be asked to renew an expiring operating levy for another 10 years with no changes, meaning the district is not asking voters for any “new money”. The levy is already part of the taxes paid by homeowners.

Unlike bonds which generally pay for building projects, operating levies support learning by paying for the basic needs of the district, such as books, supplies, teacher and staff salaries, academic programs, operating expenses and more.

The 2007 levy generates $5.2 million per year for the district, which is 8% of the annual operating budget. It is one of two operating levies approved by voters. The other levy was approved in 2011. Voters renewed the district’s Capital Projects (technology) levy in 2014, along with a bond.

If renewed, the operating levy would be in place until 2027 and, just as voters approved in 2007, the levy would still include an annual inflationary increase.

More information, including voting registration materials and additional details about levy, is available on the District website at www.isd197.org/levy.
