Cross Country - Head Coach: Erik Kluznik

The Henry Sibley boys’ cross country team repeated as Metro East Conference champions in 2016. Captains Joe Dill, Jack Korte and Gabe Segura were among the all-conference honorees for the Warriors. Other all-conference honorees included Myles Fleming, who also was chosen for this year’s team MVP. Bennett Chalifour and Hunter Gransee-Bowman received all-conference honorable mention, and Ben Archambeau was chosen as most improved. The boys’ team earned fifth place at the Section 3AA Meet, and Dill, Fleming and Korte qualified for the Class AA State Cross Country Meet to cap off another great year for the Warriors.

 

The girls’ cross country team brought home multiple trophies this season, including first place in the Metro East Conference for Varsity and Junior Varsity. The girls’ team also went on to earn first place at the Section 3AA Meet, which qualified the team to compete in the Class AA State Cross Country Meet for the first time in 11 years. The team, comprised of Olivia Segura, Rose Dill, Caroline Johnson, Lizzy Whitcomb, Jaylen Rosga, Mary Votel and Jamie Herridge, placed eleventh overall, the highest in Henry Sibley history. Dill, Segura, Whitcomb, Rosga, Votel, and Johnson were each named all-conference, while Herridge was named honorable mention. Votel also was voted most improved by her teammates, and Segura was named the team MVP. Emma Storkamp, Lizzy Whitcomb, Caroline Johnson served as captains for the Warriors.

 

“At this year’s conference meet we won all four team races (boys’ varsity and junior varsity, girls’ varsity and junior varsity),” said Coach Erik Kluznik. “It was certainly a first in the last decade and likely a first ever in school history.”

 

 

Football - Head Coaches: Tom Orth & Stan Eskierka

The 2016 season was one of continued improvement for the Henry Sibley football team, which finished the season with a 3-6 record, including a 3-5 mark in the Metro East Conference. Sakai Kelly, Sam Gantman, Ben Kemp, Dillon Orth, and Joe Kammeyer led the team as captains. Kelly was named the team MVP and earned an all-conference award. Kemp was also named all-conference as well as earned all-state honors. Other all-conference honorees included both Gantman and Kammeyer. Mike Villareal, Juan Gonzales, Bruce Lewis, Nick Belmares, and Jordin Jurado received all-conference honorable mentions. Allen Geer was voted most improved player. 

 

Girls Soccer - Head Coach: Kristen Gay

The Henry Sibley girls’ soccer team completed the 2016 season with a 5-9-0 overall record (3-4-0 in the Metro East Conference) with Laura Friedmann, Miki Lencowski and Maddie McDermott leading as team captains. Makenna Dubs-Bidon was named the team MVP as well as received all-conference honors. Other players awarded all-conference were Madeline McDermott and Laura Friedmann. Sophomore Alivia Weldon was voted as the team’s most improved player.

 

 

Boys Soccer - Head Coach: Terry Doud

Senior captains Juan Guzman and Jake Wendt led the Henry Sibley boys’ soccer team during the 2016 season. Guzman was awarded all-conference and the team MVP, while Jake Wendt, Oliver McEllistrom and Ben Church also picked up all-conference honorable mention for the Warriors. The boys finished the season with a 0-15-1 overall record (0-7-1 in the Metro East Conference). Church received the team’s most improved player award.

 

 

Girls Swimming - Head Coach: Will Anzion

The 2016 Henry Sibley girls’ swimming and diving team was led by captains Emma Saunders, Amily Smith and Sammy Martinez. Sonja Hanson landed MVP as well as All-Metro East Conference honors, along with Emma Olmanson and Avery Vogen. The Medley relay placed 5th, the 200 Free placed 6th, and the 400 Relay placed 6th at this year’s Section 4A Meet, which comprised of Rachael Maslow, Sonja Hanson, Avery Vogen, Emma Olmanson, Nicole Stotts, and Jamie Gulsvig. Maggie Martin was selected as the most improved swimmer for the Warriors after dropping eleven seconds off her time in the 500 Free at the section meet. 

 

 

Girls Tennis - Head Coach: Tony Gatti

The Henry Sibley girls’ tennis team finished the 2016 season with a 10-6 overall record, but a 5-2 mark saw the Warriors finish in second place in the Metro East Conference. Greta Prokosch, Allie Prokosch, Eva Doran and Annie Gydesen picked up all-conference honors for Sibley. Doubles team Allie and Greta Prokosch placed fourth in the Section 3AA individual tournament, and were named the team MVPs. Greta Prokosch also served as team captain alongside Eva Doran and Rachel Farber. Freshman Madeline Smith was chosen as the most improved player. Farber, meanwhile, earned an all-conference honorable mention award.

 

Volleyball Head coach: Katie Naughton

Captains Alexis Lein and Hannah Stine helped guide the Henry Sibley volleyball team to an 8-19 record during the 2016 season, including a 1-6 mark in the Metro East Conference. Stine was named the team MVP and added an all-conference award during her junior season. Brooke Solberg and Brooke Bosworth were also rewarded with all-conference honorable mention honors.
