Maureen Ramirez appointed as new school board member

RamirezAt their December 5 meeting, the District 197 School Board approved a resolution to appoint Maureen Ramirez to the board for a one-year term. Ramirez will fill an open board seat that became vacant when Dr. Matt Klein was elected to the Minnesota Senate on November 8, 2016.

"I am honored to be selected from such a qualified pool of applicants, and ready to get to work,” said Ramirez. “I am excited for this opportunity to serve the students and families in the district."

Professionally, Ramirez is the Director of Integrated Strategies for the Northside Funders Group. She has done extensive public policy work at the state Capitol and has also served on several education-related boards and committees, including the University of Minnesota Board of Regents and the Perkins Consortium, representing Minneapolis Community and Technical College.

Ramirez lives in West St. Paul and has two children who attend schools in District 197. She holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management and a Master of Arts degree in Advocacy and Political Leadership from the University of Minnesota Duluth.

The board selected Ramirez from a pool of 40 applicants. She will begin her term on January 4, 2017.
