The Minnesota Department of Education and its Division of School Finance has awarded School District 197 and its business staff the 2017 School Finance Award. The School Finance Award recognizes school organizations that exhibit sound fiscal health and financial management policies and procedures. It also reflects a proactive stance by the district on positive fund balances, financial training initiatives, and fiscal accountability.
“We were very pleased to receive this award again this year,” said Brian Schultz, director of finance. “It is a recognition of the district’s focus on maintaining financial stability, which in turn, allows us to continue to offer high-quality programs and services to our community.”
In determining the recipients of the School Finance Award, the Minnesota Department of Education reviews each district’s local publications, audit reports, and numerous pieces of fiscal data.
Among the criteria for financial reporting, districts must demonstrate a timely submission of financial data and compliance with Minnesota statutes, accuracy in financial reporting, and zero or positive balance in the following funds: General Fund Unassigned, Food Service, Community Education and Debt Service.
