DISTRICT 197 BOND REFERENDUM
May 8, 2018

In December, the District 197 School Board voted unanimously to place a funding question before voters on May 8, 2018. The decision was based on 18 months of study by the district that included a Facilities Task Force, community input and expert assessments of building and mechanical maintenance needs.

There will be one ballot question on May 8, a request of a $117 million building bond for renovations and repairs at all schools, K-12. The funds will be used to:

- Complete building and mechanical maintenance 
- Modernize outdated classrooms and educational spaces
- Improve fine arts and athletics spaces
- Address handicapped accessibility and school parking lot safety

If voters approve the ballot question, the tax impact to a resident with a home value of $237,000 (median district home value) would be approximately $7 per month.
