From Classroom to Crisis: CAPS Students Respond in Real Life
Two Rivers High School students Annabelle and Malea, who are enrolled in the TriDistrict CAPS Healthcare program, recently showed extraordinary courage and compassion during an unexpected emergency.
While working a DoorDash shift together last week, the students arrived at a home and discovered someone unresponsive in the garage. Without hesitation, they relied on the skills they’ve been learning through their TriDistrict CAPS Healthcare program. One student immediately began hands-only CPR while the other called 911 and coordinated care until emergency responders arrived.
First responders and other EMS leadership team members from M Health Fairview and South Metro Fire visited the CAPS classroom this week to honor Annabelle and Malea for their quick thinking and willingness to step in during a critical moment. The EMS staff emphasized how vital it is for bystanders to act in medical emergencies and commended the students for their bravery, especially during National EMS Week—a time to recognize those who serve and support communities in moments of crisis.
Annabelle and Malea, thank you for stepping up and putting your training into action when it mattered most. Your quick thinking and calm response in a difficult situation make our school community so proud!
