A Day in the Life of Our Transportation Team

February 19 is School Bus Driver Appreciation Day in Minnesota! We’d like to thank our hard-working bus and van drivers who safely transport our students to and from schools and activities across the District. Please join us in thanking our bus drivers.

We often see our drivers on their routes, but there's so much more that goes into their day. Here's a glimpse into the work that happens before the buses even hit the road.

Jane: Jane is up at 5:40 a.m. every day, ready to serve coffee to the whole crew. It’s a team favorite for those early morning routes!

Steve: Before his morning route, Steve checks in, grabs his route book, and prepares to hit the road with a positive attitude.

Route Prep: A few bus drivers and monitors gather to get their route books and keys before heading out on their afternoon routes. It’s a quick but important moment to make sure everyone’s set and ready for the rest of the day.

John R: Pre-trip inspections are key, and John R takes them seriously! He checks every inch of the bus to ensure it’s in top condition before hitting the road.

Abdi: We can’t forget about the fuel! Abdi is making sure his bus is gassed up and ready to roll.

Barb and Borys: These van drivers just finished up their morning routes and are headed back to the transportation office. The day is still young, and there’s always more work to be done.

Eileen and Judie: This dynamic duo keeps things running smoothly on the bus. As monitors, they are essential in helping the driver get the special education students all settled in and ready for the ride. From preschoolers to high schoolers, they help each student feel at ease and ensure every ride is safe.

Stephanie: Stephanie is a pro at multitasking! After wrapping up her morning route, she switches buses to jump into her Early Learning Center route.

John S: Awesome substitute driver, John S is looking over the route information before stepping in to cover for another driver. Thank you, John!

Jamie: On the road and on time, Jamie is already en route to pick up his students. For Jamie, it’s all about making sure the kids get to school with a smile.

As we wrap up this glimpse into the daily lives of our incredible bus drivers and monitors, we want to once again express our deepest gratitude. On this Bus Driver Appreciation Day, we celebrate you and all that you do to ensure our students' journeys are safe, smooth, and filled with care. Thank you!
