Fall 2022 High School Activities Recap
We’ve said it many times this year, but it’s a great time to be a Warrior. The fall season for athletics and activities just wrapped up, and what a season our 436 high school fall student-athletes and 109 high school fall activity participants had!
Girls tennis graduated 11 seniors this year, every single varsity member lettered, and the team received the highest academic honors.
Girls’ soccer ended their season placing second in sections!
Girls’ volleyball ended their season placing second in sections (and Head Coach Katie Naughton was named Section 3AAA Coach of the Year!).
The cross-country teams were section champions with the boys placing first and the girls placing second in sections.
The football team placed second in sections.
Girls’ swim and dive placed fourth in section with three state qualifiers.
The debate team had 18 varsity letter award winners,!
The bowling club finished as one of the top 40 teams in the state after the section meet!
Finally, the drama club just successfully wrapped up their fall play, Agatha Raisin and the Quiche of Death. Please help us in congratulating all of our fall season participants, coaches, and staff members who made such a fun and successful season possible!
Have you ever attended a Two Rivers High School home game or event and experienced the talent and dynamic energy of our Pep Band? We want to give a special shout out to the Two Rivers Pep Band and its 70 high school band student-members for bringing the school and community spirit to every game!
One Acts
This spring, three talented student-artists wrote and directed the following One Acts, which were performed for the public in April: Sinking in Debt and Missing in Roswell by Maxwell Oliver-Machuca; Exaggeration of Life by Abigail Martin; For the Love of Drama by Gimmick Dobezinski.
Boys Volleyball
The new boys club volleyball team was full of energy with high participation this spring. The team had fun, and the future looks bright for this new and growing program!
Marching Band (still in progress) It’s not summer in Minnesota without the Two Rivers Marching Band! There’s still time to support our students at the following parades this summer:
- Saturday - July 8 - Mendota Days
- Tuesday, July 11 - Valley Fair
Softball
Softball placed second in Conference and was Section tournament runner-up. Sofia Braun, Paige Nowak, Emily Rosen, and Reese Yanez received All-Conference honors, and Mazzy Stevens, Dani Shields, and Bryn Christopherson received Honorable Mention All-Conference honors.
Girls Track and Field
The girls track and field team finished first in both Conference and Sections! An impressive 25 student-athletes qualified for the State Meet this June! The 2023 team saw several school records broken: Ava Warford set the 100mH record; Claire Stein set the triple jump record; Taylor Taurinskas tied the school high jump record; and Maggie McEllistrem set the 1600 meter school record, last set in 1980.
The following student-athletes earned All-Conference honors: Sophia Agan, Maria Becker, Charlotte Chandler, LaRae Dodson, Mariana Houle, Ellie Kessler, Maggie McEllistrem, Michaela Smith, Claire Stein, Taylor Taurinskas, and Gabriela Walz. The following student athletes were All Conference Honorable Mention: Josie Miller, Chloe Otrem, Michaela Smith, Rhys Walsh, and Ava Warford.
The following student-athletes earned a spot to compete at the state track and field meet: Sophia Agan, Gabriela Walz, Charlotte Chandler, Maria Becker, Rhys Walsh, Mariana Houle, Claire Stein, Michaela Smith, Sadie Lehner, Josie Miller, and Taylor Taurinskas. The 4x200 team of Walsh, Houle, Stein, and Smith, as well as the 4x400 team of Smith, Stein, Lehner and McEllistrem, earned All-State honors. McEllistrem also earned All-State honors in the 1600.
Boys Track and Field
The boys track and field finished fourth in Conference and second in Sections. The 2023 team broke the 4x100 relay school record twice this season! Congratulations to the following athletes for being a part of this record: Gabe Goldenman, Erik Essen, Jeremiah Shenouda, Riley Pearce, and John Laugerman.
The following students were All-Conference: Gabe Goldenman, Erik Essen, Jeremiah Shenouda, Riley Pearce, Jackson Lane, Jon Wollan, Kiran Sharma, and George Altier. The following students were named Honorable Mention All-Conference: Riley Pearce, Jon Wollan, George Altier, Zach Dietsch, Jerry Shenouda, Jackson Lane, and Kiran Sharma. Jon Wollan, John Laugerman, Erick Essen, Jerry Shenouda, Riley Pearce, Jackson Lane, Kiran Sharma, George Altier, Gabe Goldenman were state participants, with George Altier, Jon Wollan, Kiran Sharma, and Jackson Lane earning All-State Honors at the meet!
Girls Golf
The girls golf team placed first in all meets during the regular season and placed first in Conference, finishing third in Sections. Melissa Irwin, Sophia Kanavati, Olivia Kanavati, and Briana Simek received All-Conference honors. Elise Buzzell and Kaya Skog were selected as Honorable Mention All-Conference. Briana Simek advanced to State Finals, finishing 48th of 88.
Boys Golf
The boys golf team placed seventh in the Metro East Conference with Matt Heymans named as the team Most Valuable Player and Will Kayoum as the team’s Most Improved Player.
Baseball
The boys baseball team finished their season with a 17-7 season record. The team finished in third place in the MEC and third place in Section 3AAA. Patrick Karlen, Martin Cubillan-Cueto, and Eli Chandler received All-Conference, and Carson Christiansen, Raul Vaz, and Brayden Bruns received Honorable Mention All-Conference.
Girls Lacrosse
It was the inaugural season for the Ducks, the lacrosse cooperative with St. Paul Public Schools. The girls team finished the season with a 3-10 overall record. Lily Leitner received All Conference honors.
Boys Lacrosse
Also the inaugural season for the Ducks, the boys team finished the season with a 5-9 overall record. Thomas Lutz received All-Conference honors. Peter Foley was selected as Honorable Mention All-Conference.
Boys Tennis
The boys tennis team finished their season with an 11-2 season record. The team finished second in the Metro East Conference standings and third in the Section. Andrew Eckmann, Nolan McNally, Corbin Challifour, Vincent Schuhle, Nico Ferraro, Isak Christopherson, and Zed Silberman were named All-Conference. Nathan Ivascu and John Shillcox were Honorable Mentions. The doubles team of Andrew Eckmann and Vincent Schuhle finished in fourth place in the section doubles tournament.
