Somerset's SPIFF Program
Published February 2024
Somerset Elementary School has been running its SPIFF Program—Special Pals Involved in Fun Friendships—for over 30 years! SPIFF is an intergenerational friendship program that pairs second graders with older adults in the community. Over the school year, the SPIFF pals visit Somerset for fun get-togethers with their second-grade friends, including reading, art projects, learning activities, and more.
SPIFF was started by former Somerset second-grade teacher Alex Messicci in 1989—making this year the 35th year of the program. Special thanks to all the pals helping connect the community—and generations!
