Heritage Technology Procedures
Cell Phone Procedure
Purpose:
- To provide clear guidelines for Heritage students and families about cell phone usage in school.
- To support a community focus on learning, inclusivity, and empathy for students and staff at Heritage.
Student Expectations:
Students may bring cell phones, electronic devices, and accessories to school at their own risk; however, students must abide by the following expectations:
Cell phones and related items must be turned off and put away from 8:45 AM until 3:20 PM. Cell phones may not be used, seen, or heard during the school day.
- Cell phone usage in learning spaces, hallways, bathrooms, and the cafeteria is not allowed.
- Cell phones may not be used to photograph, record, or video-record anyone in the school building.
Consequences:
If students do not follow the expectations given above, the following steps will be taken. Please note that students who do not turn in their phones when required will move directly to the third or fourth level offense.
- 1st Offense and 2nd Offense: Collected and Documented
- Parents/guardians will be notified. Students may pick up their phones from the office at the end of the day.
- 3rd Offense: Collected and Documented
- Parents/guardians will be notified. Parents/guardians must collect the phone from the office.
- 4th Offense: Collected and Documented
Parents/guardians will be notified and will conference with an administrator. Students will check in their phones at the office at the start of each school day for the remainder of the year.
iPad Policy
Purpose:
- Teachers and staff believe in the ability of technology to enhance and personalize learning.
- Students use iPads to access course content, complete homework, collaborate and communicate with classmates, conduct research, and more.
Student Expectations:
- It is expected that all school-owned iPads will be brought to school each day, stay in good condition throughout each school year, and remain in an acceptable working order.
- If a school-owned iPad or device charger is lost or damaged, it is the student’s responsibility to pay the replacement fee. Students should report any loss, damage, or theft as soon as possible.
- iPads may not be used to send inappropriate messages, pictures, or videos at any time. Devices are school property and are used for school purposes only in safe, legal, and responsible ways.
Consequences:
If students do not follow the expectations given above, the following steps can be taken:
- Turning in the iPad at the end of the day
- Restrictions placed on the device
- Use of paper copies
- iPad is collected and no longer used
