Elections

A school district general election will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 for the purpose of electing four residents to serve on the seven-member School Board for School District 197. The terms of four current School Board seats (Brenda Corbett, Joanne Mansur, Byron Schwab and Terry Stamman) are expiring on December 31, 2019.

The period for filing affidavits of candidacy for the office of School Board member begins at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 and closes at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2019. Affidavits of candidacy will be available and can be filed in the Superintendent's Office during the following office hours:

     -  July 30-August 12 (8am-4pm Monday through Thursday and 8am-11:30am on Fridays)
     -  August 13 (8am-5pm)

The District Office is located at 1897 Delaware Avenue, Mendota Heights, MN 55118.  Complete affidavits of candidacy must be filed at the District Office no later than 5:00 p.m. on August 13, 2019 along with a non-refundable $2 filing fee OR a petition with at least 500 signatures of eligible voters in place of the filing fee.  The District Office main entrance is located at the far end of the main Henry Sibley High School parking lot, near the tennis courts.

If needed, persons who file for candidacy for School Board have until 5:00 p.m. on August 15, 2019 to request that their name be removed from the ballot.  After August 15, the names of all remaining candidates will be included on the ballot.

A Candidate Information Session will be held on Wednesday, August 7th beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the district office.  This is a great time to learn more about the school district in general, the responsibilities of a School Board member and get any of your questions answered prior to submitting your affidavit.

A candidate for this office must be an eligible voter in the state of Minnesota, has not filed for the same or any other office at the upcoming general election, must be 21 years of age or more upon assuming office, must have been a resident of the school district from which the candidate seeks election for 30 days before the general election, and must not be a registered sex offender under Minn. Stat. 243.166.
