Welcome to School District 197 Community Preschool

Preschool registration for the 2026-2027 school year is open. Please see the brochure under the first tab below for class options and fees.

You will be notified of your child's preschool placement within 10 days of your online registration. Children must be at least 3 years old on or before September 1, 2026, and be able to use the toilet independently, with little assistance, to start preschool.

*Community Preschool is a fee-based program; *Financial Assistance/Scholarship information is under the second tab below. A completed scholarship application and qualifying documentation are necessary for consideration.

School District 197 Preschool programs provide a bridge to school through half and full-day classes that offer rich learning experiences in well-equipped classrooms. All of our caring staff are trained in Early Childhood Education.

Our programs lay the foundation for future school success by encouraging:

  • Personal, social-emotional, and physical development
  • Language development
  • Pre-reading skills
  • Pre-writing skills
  • Mathematical and scientific thinking
  • Enthusiasm for social studies, music, and art
  • Play and exploration in a gym or outdoor spaces daily

PreKindergarten classes are for children who are 4 by September 1. Preschool classes expose children to experiences that promote social skills and enhance learning. Children learn and grow in a structured play-based preschool environment that fosters school-readiness skills in preparation for kindergarten. Children must be age 4 by September 1 and able to use the toilet independently with limited assistance.

Registration for the 2025-2026 school year is ongoing until classes are filled. To register for preschool, please Click Here.
